About Karolyne

Karolyne Tomlinson (she/her), has over five years of experience supporting individuals, families, couples, and children. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Karolyne utilizes her training in family therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy as a base for her work. She has experience working with families experiencing crises and communication challenges, and currently works full time with adolescents as a school social worker.

Supporting clients through a strengths-based perspective and understanding that all people are part of dynamic systems of relationships is important to her.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors - exploring NYC parks, going to the beach, hiking and traveling. When she’s not outside, she is usually watching reality TV with her two cats.  Karolyne is a major foodie and embraces living in the most diverse city in the world by trying new restaurants with her husband and learning about different cultures!

  • My path to becoming a social worker developed out of a desire to help others, and an innate ability to connect to others with empathy. I have experience working with diverse populations and modalities (clinic and hospital settings, in-home family therapy, school based therapy).

  • My intake process includes a 15 minute consultation phone call to see if we are the right fit for each other. I can offer a mix of supportive talk therapy and concrete skills to address areas of concern. This is also a time for me to see if my areas of expertise and approach to therapy aligns with your goals and reasons for seeking therapy. I prefer to work with clients who are looking for support for concerns like:

    • relationship stress (romantic, familial, friendship)

    • life adjustments like moving, career or parenthood

    • overall support for anxious thoughts and feelings

If we are a match, clients complete a series of forms and assessments before getting started with our first session.

  • I recently completed a Post-Master's Certificate from New York Univeristy in Advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As someone who values combining supportive talk therapy with evidence-based concrete skills, I feel I am better equipped to support folks looking for visible change in their lives after this training program. I currently work with adolescents full-time during the day, where my therapeutic muscle is stretched and strengthened in different ways. I am interested in resuming my work with adult individuals, families and couples through Alma.
